Topo. Map Battle Flat 7.5
Township 11N Range 1E Section 20 NW
The Cleator area is full of mines and digs and old shacks. There are 3 trips that I will
use Cleator as the starting point. One to the north, one to the
northwest, this trip. Which is just up the road to Crown King and one to the
south where you will eventually come out just south of Bumble Bee.
The main area of interest is the Desoto mine. This mine is located on the Battle flat topo map. Also you will continue to use the NAD27 CONUS map datum on your GPS. I will start the directions from in front of the Cleator store on the left. For directions to get there see the North of Cleator page.I will include
all of the directions in the printable directions. Set your trip meter to 0.00 in
front of the store.

If you stop at the processing area you can get a great view of the switchbacks
of the Crown King road. There is a road to the left of the mine that will take you
to the upper mines. Take the left fork when you get to the first level area to get
to the top. The right fork will take you behind the mountain. This road will eventually
take you the back way to the Peck mine and the Swastika mine and eventually back to
the road that leads up to Crown King.
